Decks and porches

What holds it up, and what lights it.

A deck is only as good as what is under it. The footings and the framing are built to code, permitted and inspected before a single board goes on.

On top: composite or pressure-treated decking, railings, benches, stairs and landings. Overhead, when you want one: a covered deck or a screened porch, like the pine-ceiling porch with its own TV wall on this page.

Because the company is also the electrician, the lights, the ceiling fans and the outdoor outlets are part of the plan from the start.

  • Light on the stairs and posts

Step and post lighting is wired before the decking and the rails close it in.

  • Fans and lights overhead

Covered decks and porches get ceiling fans and recessed lights, wired with the ceiling.

  • Outdoor outlets

Outdoor outlets go in GFCI-protected, where you will actually plug things in.

Questions

Asked before the first visit.

Anything else, call (301) 832-4591. A person answers.

Composite or wood?

Both. We build with composite decking and with pressure-treated lumber. Which one fits depends on the house, how you will use it and your budget, and the written estimate spells it out.

Do you build screened porches and covered decks?

Yes. Screened porches and covered decks are part of the deck and porch work, and the lights and ceiling fans can be part of the same job.

Do you pull the permits?

Yes. Permits and inspections are handled as part of the job.
