Home additions

An addition has two jobs.

It has to add the room you need, and it has to belong to the house: the same roofline, the same siding, trim that matches. That is the scope we work to, from the first sketch through the final paint, with the structural engineering, the permits and the trades coordinated along the way.

The garage addition on this page shows the order of it: framed on a new slab, with the first cable run before the walls closed; wrapped and roofed; then finished inside with painted walls, plank wainscot and sliding barn doors to a back room.

New rooms need new circuits, and sometimes more panel than the house has. We check the panel during the estimate, and if the addition needs a service upgrade, that is part of the same job.

Where the new rooms meet the old panel

  • Panel check first

Before the addition is wired, the existing panel is checked for room. If it needs an upgrade, our electricians do it as part of the same job.

  • Planned with the floor plan

Outlets, switches and lights for the new rooms are laid out before framing, not fitted around the furniture later.

  • Inspected while it is open

The rough-in is inspected with the walls open. Then the insulation and drywall go up.
